What to Wear in Iceland

Because the weather in Iceland is very unpredictable and rather cool or cold, the most basic and necessary clothing items are a sweater, a windbreaker, rainwear and sturdy walking shoes. You should also bring a swimsuit, even if you come in winter. There are many warm open-air thermal pools and indoor swimming pools all over the country. If you plan to go camping, you need to bring a thermal sleeping bag and warm underwear and socks.

Icelanders in general dress well, especially when they go out to fine restaurants or theaters. They find it important to dress neatly in public and spend much money on clothing. The country is known for its woolen sweaters.
